OCWA Wins International Awards For Innovative Operational System
After garnering the Best SCADA Application from the Wonderware Open 2008 competition, the Ontario Clean Water Agency was then honoured with the Pinnacle Award for best overall application at the WonderWorld user conference in Las Vegas this week.
The awards recognize innovation and real-time operational excellence. While proud of the achievement, OCWA’s primary focus is how this innovation can benefit their clients all across Ontario. “The biggest benefit of the OCWA-Wonderware package is that it allows us to be scalable. It allows us to measure and to be able to ensure that drinking water or wastewater effluent in a very small municipality is getting the same high quality treatment as larger utilities,” says George Terry, VP of Operations.
OCWA adapted Wonderware software to create standardized applications for water and wastewater treatment systems that can be deployed at a satellite or remote customer site. OCWA’s innovation has also made the application accessible in a fraction of the time that was previously required.
Wonderware is a global leading supplier of industrial automation and information software solutions. The company sponsors an annual international industrial automation application competition. The winners were selected from entries from around the world and were judged by industry experts, trade magazine editors, and members of Wonderware’s marketing staff.
As winner of the Best SCADA Application, OCWA was invited to speak at the conference. Winners in each category competed for the prestigious peer-driven Pinnacle Award. Based on presentations from each industry, OCWA was selected by conference delegates for the top honour.
