We continue to integrate economic, social and environmental considerations into our overall business activities. We are a public utility that competes in the private sector. We do not receive government subsidies and as a Canadian company, our revenues flow directly back to your local Ontario economy and to the people of Ontario.
In 2008 the Agency established an OCWA Corporate Social Responsibility Team to assist in developing a systematic approach to corporate social responsibility at OCWA in accordance with our Business Plan and our vision, mission and values. Through a formalized process, OCWA's Corporate Social Responsibility Team tracks our progress and makes recommendations on meeting our social responsibility commitments.
OCWA has a long tradition of supporting the communities in which we live, work and play. Throughout the year, OCWA participates in numerous community events such as drinking water festivals and community fundraising activities. We are also supportive of the volunteer efforts of our staff - from volunteer firefighting to involvement in youth sports.
In 2009, we became the official Ontario partner in the World Water Monitoring Day Program. This International education and outreach program builds awareness and involvement in protecting water resources around the world by engaging citizens to conduct basic monitoring of their local water bodies.
