Under the Safe Drinking Water Act, owners of municipal drinking water systems must obtain a Municipal Drinking Water Licence to operate their systems. Licensing will be phased in over a period of 18 months beginning January 1, 2009 to June 1, 2010. Municipalities must also incorporate the concept of "quality management" into the operation of those system(s) as part of the licensing regime. Your quality management system must correspond to the DWQMS and be documented through your Operational Plan.
Quality Management Systems (QMS) are not new to the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA). In fact, we have been refining our internal system since 1995. Over the years, we've accumulated a wealth of experience in the field of drinking water system operations, maintenance, management, and with issues related to regulatory compliance. To help you meet the requirements of the DWQMS, OCWA brings a proven, efficient approach to developing a QMS and preparing water system Operational Plan(s). We are pleased to be able to offer that approach and expertise to you for your system(s).
