Education

Education is a powerful tool. At OCWA, we lead by example by reaching out to our community and our future generations about the impact their actions can have on our fragile water systems. This is why OCWA is an active participant in industry conferences. We present several papers on topics ranging from operational best practices to operator incentive programs and also work as part of various research consortiums involving municipal, provincial and federal governments and Ontario universities to better understand source water protection and the effects of wastewater treatment.

OCWA actively supports Youth Employment and Educational initiatives and mentoring through various programs:

PROGRAMS - STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

Working with Ontario colleges and universities, we connect students to Co-ops, Job Placements, and Internships. The Agency also invites youth to learn about water careers through our Summer Experience Program [1] while high school students can test out the water workforce during the school year through Passport to Prosperity [2]. OCWA also offers two Environmental Second-year Scholarships [3] for students who are planning an environmental career. Please contact Marilyn Wilson – mwilson@ocwa.com [4] for further information regarding OCWA scholarships.

BOOK A FACILITY TOUR

If you are interested in booking a tour to one of OCWA's water or wastewater facilities, please contact the Communications Department at ocwa@ocwa.com [5]. A representative will be able to provide you with contact information for the facility* you are looking to tour.

Please note: OCWA cannot guarantee that all facilities can accommodate group requests, however many of them are happy to provide tours to schools and community groups. These are decided on a case-by-case basis.
